Kathmandu: Sudhan Gurung has resigned from his position, citing ethical concerns and the need to maintain public trust.
In a message shared on social media on Wednesday, Gurung stated that he stepped down to address growing public questions related to his share trading activities and other controversies. He emphasized that maintaining ethics and public confidence is more important than holding office.
Gurung, who had been serving as Home Minister since chaitra 13, said his decision reflects a commitment to good governance, transparency, and accountability—principles strongly raised during the ‘Gen-G’ movement. In his resignation note, he wrote that public life must remain clean and accountable, especially in a government formed through public sacrifice.
He also clarified that resigning would allow for a fair and impartial investigation into the allegations against him, avoiding any conflict of interest while in office. Addressing the public, youth, and media, he highlighted the importance of sacrifice and moral courage in bringing real change.
His resignation has sparked fresh political debate around ethics and accountability in governance. Earlier, Prime Minister Balendra Shah had removed another minister over similar concerns, but in this case, Gurung chose to step down voluntarily.
The controversy surrounding Gurung includes undisclosed share transactions reportedly linked to businessman Deepak Bhatt, which surfaced despite his earlier explanations.
